Pregnancy is measured in weeks from the first day of your last period and is split into three trimesters. Full term is considered 39 to 40 weeks, and babies arriving from 37 weeks are still considered term.
| Trimester | Weeks | What is happening |
|---|---|---|
| First | 1 – 13 | Major organs form. First scan and booking visit. |
| Second | 14 – 27 | The anomaly scan is usually done around weeks 18 to 22. |
| Third | 28 – 40 | Baby gains weight. Delivery planning begins. |

Use the ultrasound method. A dating scan in the first trimester estimates your due date without needing your last period date. The calculator can work from the scan date and the weeks measured.
For IVF, the due date is based on the embryo transfer date. The calculation differs for a 3-day (cleavage) transfer and a 5-day (blastocyst) transfer, and the tool adjusts for both.

Yes. An early dating scan often gives a more accurate date than the last period, so your doctor may adjust it. Later in pregnancy, the date is rarely changed.
