Fibroid Removal

Fibroid removal

Physiotherapy during pregnancy plays a vital role in promoting maternal well-being, preparing the body for childbirth, and addressing musculoskeletal changes and discomforts associated with pregnancy. Here’s an overview of physiotherapy in pregnancy
Fibroid removal, also known as myomectomy, is a surgical procedure performed to remove fibroids from the uterus while leaving the uterus intact. Here’s a general outline of the procedure:

Preparation: Before the surgery, the patient will undergo a thorough evaluation, which may include blood tests, imaging studies (such as ultrasound or MRI), and possibly a hysteroscopy (a procedure to examine the inside of the uterus using a thin, lighted tube).

Anesthesia: The patient is usually given general anesthesia, which means they will be asleep and pain-free during the surgery. In some cases, regional anesthesia (such as an epidural) may be used.

Incision: The surgeon makes an incision in the abdomen, either horizontally along the bikini line (similar to a cesarean section incision) or vertically from just below the navel to the pubic bone.

Access to the Uterus: Once the abdominal cavity is accessed, the surgeon locates the uterus and carefully examines it to identify the location and size of the fibroids.

Fibroid Removal: The surgeon then carefully removes the fibroids from the uterus. The method of removal depends on factors such as the size, number, and location of the fibroids. Techniques may include:

Laparoscopic Myomectomy: This minimally invasive approach involves making several small incisions in the abdomen through which a laparoscope (a thin, lighted tube with a camera) and surgical instruments are inserted. The surgeon uses these instruments to remove the fibroids while viewing the internal organs on a video monitor.

Robotic Myomectomy: Similar to laparoscopic myomectomy but using robotic arms controlled by the surgeon to perform the procedure. This allows for greater precision and maneuverability in tight spaces.

Hysteroscopic Myomectomy: For fibroids located within the uterine cavity, a hysteroscope is inserted through the vagina and cervix into the uterus. The surgeon uses specialized instruments to remove the fibroids through the hysteroscope without making any abdominal incisions.

Closure: Once the fibroids are removed, the surgeon carefully closes the incisions with sutures or surgical staples.

Recovery: After the surgery, the patient is taken to a recovery area where they are monitored closely as they wake up from anesthesia. Depending on the type of procedure and individual factors, the patient may need to stay in the hospital for observation for a day or two. Recovery time varies but typically ranges from a few days to several weeks, during which the patient may experience some discomfort, pain, and fatigue.
